One Month

On Friday, I announced my intention to spend the next 30 days moving (much) more - an hour a day, plus iron-clad resolve in the three balanced meals and NO SNACKS territory.  I'm going to record all three meals in my SmallSlice album.  For 30 days, I can do anything.  And here's the thing - so can you.

Then it dawned on me that Saturday is a stupid day to officially start anything - for group purposes, that is.  So, I've already got the ball rolling over here, but let's call Monday, June 26, 2006 our official Month of Motivation starting block.

Why 30 days?  Well, I've heard that it takes about that long to form a new habit.  Or maybe break an old habit.  Whatever.  I'm all about breaking the old and building the new, and I figure 30 days of consistent activity will do the trick.  This doesn't mean that I won't have a off day here or there.  But I'm going to hang onto this wagon with my fingernails, and keep swinging myself back on.

Want to play along?  Leave a comment, and let me know what your goal is for this month.  Mine?  Lose 10 pounds before BlogHer.

If you don't currently have a blog - you don't need one to participate.  However, it can be an easy, fun way to keep yourself honest and allow others to offer encouragement.  Typepad offers a free 30-day trial, or you can sign up for a free blog at www.blogspot.com.

In the spirit of taking this one meal and one activity at a time, I will be giving away daily prizes to commenters - and I'm planning a weekly contest to keep us all on track.  Check back tomorrow for details.

My goal is the same as yours - ten pounds by BlogHer.

I'm committing to an hour of workout a day. No between meal snacks, and healthy meals on a smaller plate.

Thanks for the push, Jenny.

Jenny, I'm in: 15 minutes of decluttering every single day. (Including getting the stuff all the way OUT of my house.) Eek.

5 more pounds before BlogHer (I'm down 5 from when I started).

Also: Prizes? I like prizes!

I am going to exercise with weights twice a week. I am already walking my son up and down hills in the neighborhood for at least 40 minutes and at least 3 times a week, so I will consider that my cardio for now. But I MUST GO TO THE GYM.

I'm in as well. I have about 8 pounds left of baby weight (she turns one next week). My goals is to workout for at least 30 minutes a day and cut out snacks.

I'm in, too. I know what works best for me - cutting my carb intake to no more than 30g a day. I've been cheating lately and I'm flabby again and the headaches and dizzy spells are back. So for 30 days, no sugar and no more than 30g carbs a day. I'm off to eat a mock cheese danish and a salad!

Thank you, Jenny. Just today I had convinced myself that sticking to my low carb diet was too hard, and that I wasn't going to lose any weight for BlogHer anyway, so I might as well give up. NO NO NO. 30 days, 10 pounds, YES YES YES!

i'm jumping on your bandwagon. while i'm not going to blog her i will try to lose 10 pounds in 30 days. an hour a day and better foods? i'm in. i'll journal it on my blog. Thanks for the challenge...now if it starts tommorrow i better finish those cheese curls....

I'm in to lose 10 lbs.

I'll commit to 30 min of cardio everyday. I'm already going to the gym to strength train, now I need to get my heart involved too...

I'm doing (or at least paying for) Weight Watchers so I'll also commit to be more dedicated to points counting.

I keep hoping I'll be able to melt off ten pounds before Blogher just by breastfeeding. So far I've managed to GAIN two pounds (even though I've cut EVERYTHING out of my diet). So yeah, it's probably time I come up with a plan.

Here goes: no more snacking. I'll eat only four times a day and have protein with every meal.

Thanks for the motivation!

Okay. I already go to the gym three times a week.

For the next 30 days, I will walk at least 30 minutes on non-gym days.

What a great idea this is!

I've been meaning to do the 50 pushups/day routine, so that will be one goal. The other goal is to ride my bike 50 miles/week.

Count me in as I declutter our book and curriculum collection (homeschooler here.) You'd *think* that I'd be rather naturally (since we take the summers off) roped in to getting it done before the end of July, but ... well, let's just say I could write an entire curriculum in procrastination. ;-) Committing to the next 30 days ....

I'm so in as well. Ten pounds be gone!

Welcome home!
I am all about getting my life back. Which to me, means regaining control of the house, the kids and my energy.

My goal? Just to stay on my friggin' diet for 30 days: lots of protein, veggies, and fruit, no snacks, and lots of water. I won't say NO sugar or refined carbs, because that kind of language tends to send me diving into a bag of m&ms, but I will say I'm staying far away from it.

I'm in. Yo.

(I'll blog about it later today or tomorrow.)

Woo-hoo! You guys! I'm getting all excited!

I'm in too. 10 lbs is my goal for this summer. It'd be nice to have it done before Sept.

I'm already walking 30 mins+ a day, but am committing to doing more stretching/pilates and smaller meals and pre-planned healthy snacks and no snacking after 7 pm.

Great idea. I'm going to organize the desk in my kitchen. With all the papers, it should take a month!

I'm in too! I've been enjoying your Big Slice of Life posts and thinking that this is just the thing I need to kick myself into gear. I weigh exactly the same as you do (at only 5'1")so I really feel like I'm doing this with you. I just re-started, for the umpteenth time, doing Weight Watchers (not going to meetings but counting and journaling)and I'm determined to make it work this time. I'm also committing to getting to the Y atleast 3 times a week for cardio and weights and trying to do some sort of moving at home on the days that I don't go. My ultimate goal is to lose 50 lbs but right now I'll settle for 10 lbs before I go back to work in August. This should be fun!!

I will commit to 5 days of 30 minutes of movement per week. My friend just lent me her tie-bo tapes. I am starting tonight. My goal is 10 pounds by Sept. 1 and another 10 by Feb. 24th for the cruise I am going on.

O.K. I'm taking the plunge. I'm going back on Weight Watchers (journaling, measuring, etc.) and will also commit to 10 lbs. by BlogHer and weekly yoga classes.
